Shakrisyabz Suzani Shakrisyabz Suzani Shakrisyabz Suzani Shakrisyabz Suzani

Suzanies are the silk embroideries of Central Asia, most famous of which are the ones made in Uzbekistan, Samarkand and Tajikistan. They were embroidered by all the female members of the family for the dowry of the bride to be. They were always stitched in silk on a cotton or linen or extremely rarely on a silk base. The most important ones were made in Shakrisyabz, Kermina, Bokhara, Nurata, Ura Tube and Samarkand and the older they are, the more beautiful they look.

The oldest surviving pieces are arguably from the end of the 18th century.

Our own Suzani has a very elegant design on an unusually plain ground, where all the fine motifs have plenty of space to “breath”, creating a relaxing atmosphere to the viewer. A quite remarkable feature is the use of blue color mainly in the leaf motifs in the border. In very good condition according to age.
