Chila
The village of Chila in southeast Caucasian Azerbaijan, near the Baku in the Caspian sea, traditionally produces a very distinctive type of rugs. They are easily recognizable from the use of “boteh” motifs and their characteristic palette, which includes light and dark indigo, as well as tobacco hues.
This particular, very attractive Chila rug, has a long format, which enhances the beautifully drawn six step polygon medallions, whereas the “barber pole” border adds a sense of movement to this finely woven rug.
