Bidjar Red
Inhabited mainly by Kurds, the western provinces of Persia were far less affected by conquests and historic upheavals which afflicted the urbanized districts during the 18th century. As a result, the continuity of the Persian carpet tradition was least interrupted by external influences. At the same time, these regions were at the forefront of the revival of crafts which followed the return of peace and prosperity in the 19th century.
This magnificent Bidjar, with a striking plain red field, accommodating a majestic central medallion and two equally important secondary medallions, is a fine example of the carpets of this revival period. It is in very good condition, according to age, and is free of repairs.
