Sumak
This Soumak made in the Shirvan district in the Transcaucasian mountains during the end of the 19th century, is a fine example of an organized workshop, specialized in producing this complicated technique wise flat weave . The brick red field, the yellow octagons, along with the light blue central medallion, flanked by two similar dark blue ones, show the high degree of skill in using vegetable dyes. This most important element, along with respect in following the “complete design story” on both sides, point out a very capable and devoted carpet manufacturer. An excellent antique Soumak in every respect.
